Best Edition The Missing with FREE MOBI EDITION!

So you know, I like a trashy beach read as much as anyone. Maybe more! And that's what this looked like to me. A classic premise: a group of people with questionable pasts, stranded on a desert island. Drama ensues. Sets up as a nice throwaway thriller, right? Nope. It's actually painful to even try to read this book.The writing here is so over-the-top horrendous that after first reading, then skimming (because I couldn't bear to read any further), I abandoned even trying to find out what happens. Her chest was "tight with haggard breaths"? "His tone was rife with disappointment." These two gems of misuse of the English language happen within just a couple pages and are by far not the worst offenses. It doesn't even matter that the dialogue is stilted and the characters clichéd, because the writing kills off the book before the plot can get to work. (Forget about the desert island and dastardly plots! This book nukes itself.)One of the worst books I've ever tried to read, and that's measuring it by beach-read standards.
